| Danbury girls fall to Northwood |

The Danbury girls lost a close 45-43 game to Northwood on the Rangers’ court on Jan. 29. The Lakers fell to 7-8 overall, 4-4 in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference, while Northwood improved to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in the league. Danbury held onto a slim one point lead, 13-12 after one quarter, and then extended that to 26-21 at halftime. Then Northwood took control in the third quarter, outscoring Danbury 12-6 and not allowing a Laker field goal the entire eight minutes to take a one point lead, 32-31. During that third stanza, the Lakers were six for six from the free throw line. But Danbury came back to keep it a close game in the fourth quarter. Then, Ranger Bisbee Becca made five of six free clutch throws down the stretch to turn a 41-40 Northwood deficit into a two-point Ranger victory For Northwood, Shayna Hague scored 10 points, including two three-point goals, and Sammie Brisbin added eight points, which also included two treys. Becca Brisbin had seven points on only one field goal and five free throws Payton Wojcinski, Roma Abdelhoq, and Kristen Wegman each scored four points for Northwood, Nicole Cousino had three points, Anna Raymond and Kelcie Hansen each had two points, and Sandy Koch added one point. Cousino’s points all came on a three-point goal. For Danbury, Christine Longer scored 14 points, including six in the final quarter. She was also four for four from the free throw line. Teammate Heather Bahnsen added 10 points, including four of six from the charity stripe. Kayla Oxendale had six points. Tori England added five points for the Lakers, including three for three from the line, while Kelsey Clemons scored four points and K.C. Oxendale scored two points on two of three free throws. For the game, the Lakers were 13-of-16 from the free throw line (81 percent), while Northwood was six of 10 (60 percent). From the field, the Rangers shot 47 percent and the Lakers 30 percent. Wegman and Hague each had seven rebounds while Northwood controlled the glass by a 24 to 22 margin. Longer had nine caroms for Danbury. The Lakers committed 14 turnovers to Northwood’s 17. In junior varsity action, another close game saw Danbury victorious, 39-37.
