| Manuella breaks single-game assist record |

Danbury’s varsity boys basketball team improved its overall record to 8-5 Saturday with a 62-53 non-conference home victory over the Seneca East Tigers. During the victory, senior Vincent Manuella broke Jake Fanning’s single-game assist record by handing out 15 assists on the night. “Vincent had a great floor game and it was quite an accomplishment to break the single game assist record,” said Coach Joe Miller. “His teammates did a great job finishing shots to help him get the record.” Hunter Stephens led the Lakers with a career-high 23 points and 14 rebounds. It was his fourth consecutive double-double. Rodney Johnson added 17 points and three steals, while Tyler Boring tallied 11 points, five rebounds and four assists. The JV team lost to Seneca East by a score of 45-39. Leading the way for the Lakers was Dakota Hruby with 16 points. Lucas Kennedy finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Brandon Burke and Dalton Chapman finished with eight and five points respectively. On Jan. 26, the Lakers lost a tough battle to the Emmanuel Christian Warriors 62-56. Rodney Johnson tallied 23 points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots for the Lakers. Hunter Stephens added 16 points, 18 rebounds and three assists, while Tyler Boring contributed nine points, four rebounds and three blocked shots. The JV team lost to Emmanuel Christian by a score of 35-29. Lucas Kennedy led the Lakers with eight points, eight rebounds, nine steals and three assists. Branden Burke had nine points and two steals, while Dakota Hruby added eight points, four rebounds and four steals. On Jan. 22, Danbury was defeated by the state-ranked (No. 9 AP Poll) Ottawa Hills Green Bears by a score of 68-59. Rodney Johnson and Hunter Stephens led a strong Laker comeback, but fell just short in the closing minute. Johnson tallied 22 points, three rebounds and three steals, while Stephens added 20 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals. In addition, Vincent Manuella added seven points and seven rebounds and Nathan Hartman added six points and three rebounds. The JV team lost to Ottawa Hills by a score of 60-28. Branden Burke led the Lakers with 12 points and two steals. Wyatt Nelson added nine points and two rebounds, while Dalton Chapman added three points and four rebounds. On Jan. 19, Danbury defeated the Cardinal Stritch Cardinals by a score of 65-50 to sweep the season series. Rodney Johnson led a balanced Laker attack with 16 points and five steals. Hunter Stephens contributed 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Tyler Boring added 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Manuella also reached double figures with 10 points, seven assists and three rebounds, while Steven Feyedelem tallied six points and four assists. The JV team lost to Cardinal Stritch 37-19. Hruby had six points and six rebounds, while Dalton Chapman added 6 points and 2 steals, while Cory Schenk pulled down 8 rebounds.
