James J. Telliard Sept. 4, 1923-Jan. 29, 2014

We bid a loving farewell to James J. Telliard Sr., age 90, born in Cleveland, Sept. 4, 1923.  He was born to Martha and Frances Telliard and he was one of six brothers and sisters. Jim and two of his brothers served in the Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific.  His early years after the war were spent in the Cleveland area where he began a business career in the laundry supply business, Merchants Towel Linen Supply where he soon became manager and then owner.  His life was filled with business adventures, which includes a four year management of a laundry facility in Puerto Rico (1950s) and his prize venture, The Oak Harbor Golf Course (in Ohio).  

Jim was also blessed with a happy 46 year marriage with Delorez Telliard (deceased), six children; James Jr., Jeff (wife Liz), Charlie (wife Laurel), Debbra (husband Mike Bassett), Jon (wife Doris) and Marscia Zaccaria, all providing him with a total of 13 devoted grandchildren and two great grandchildren. All have enjoyed the benefits and participation in his many business adventures. 


Dr. Kenneth L. Akins June 9, 1932-Jan. 30, 2014

Dr. Kenneth L. Akins, 81, of Port Clinton, passed away, Thursday, Jan. 30, at Edgewood Manor Nursing Home, Port Clinton, surrounded by his loving family.  Ken was born on June 9, 1932 in Akron, the son of Quay and Bernice (Bixler) Akins. On Sept. 19, 1959 in Louisville, OH, he married Naomi Thompson and she survives.  Ken had his private practice from 1962 to 1996 and was the staff physician for Davis Besse Nuclear Power Station.  He also was the Ottawa County Coroner from 1983 to 2000.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean War.  Ken enjoyed photography, traveling, computer and music.  He was the author of two books related to the history of Ottawa County and of Port Clinton Faith United Methodist Church.  Ken was a member of the Oliver H. Perry Masonic Lodge #341 F. & A.M.  He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Port Clinton.  Ken will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.


Trinke E. Hansen Jan. 2, 1918-Jan. 29, 2014

Trinke E. Hansen, 96, of Port Clinton, passed away, Wednesday, Jan. 29, at The Meadows at Osborn Park, Sandusky,.  Trinke was born on Jan. 2, 1918 in Gottrupfeld, Germany, the daughter of Edlef and Anna Maria (Jurgensen) Christensen. 

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton.  Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4, in the funeral home.  Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Trinke may be given to Stein Hospice or Ida Rupp Public Library.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at

Helen T. Gdovicak Sept. 20, 1926-Jan. 28, 2014

Helen T. Gdovicak, 87, of Marblehead died Jan. 28, at Ames Family Hospice House, Westlake.  She was born Sept. 20, 1926 in Akron, the daughter of John and Mary (Meholik) Taray.  She married Joseph Gdovicak on May 29, 1948 and he preceded her in death on Mar. 11, 2003.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Dan Ring at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead where visitation will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the mass.  Additional visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.  at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, Lakeside—Marblehead.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Marblehead.  Memorial contributions may be given to Glen Haven Area Vol. Fire Department, C/O Glen Haven Flood Recovery Effort, P. Suzanne J. Hauser, 85, of Port Clinton, Ohio died Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky. She was born on March 11, 1928 in Toledo. 

Visitation will be held at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 3-7 p.m., where members of the Altar-Rosary will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, with Father John C. Missler officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton.

Flora C. Green, 88, died on Jan 25. She was born in Elmore on June 6, 1925, to John and Clara (Gerber) Neihausmyer. 

A memorial service will be held on Mar. 1 at 11 a.m. at the Woodville United Methodist Church. Friends will be received one hour preceding the service, and a luncheon will follow.
