Joan W. Ahlers Jan. 20, 1937-Aug. 22, 2014

Joan W. Ahlers, 77, of Catawba Island, died Friday, August 22, at her home.  She was born Jan. 20, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of the late William L. and Hilda (Halferty) Wilt.  She was a 1957 graduate of West Penn Nursing School.  She married Roger Ahlers on Jan. 28, 1958 and he preceded her in death in 2006.  Joan was a cardiac nurse anesthetist at the Cleveland Clinic for over 20 years retiring in 1998.

Joan was known for her energy and drive.  She was an adventurous traveler who loved the outdoors, especially boating and fishing.  She was a lifelong volunteer in the community.  Joan was a gifted gardener and a member of the Catawba Island Garden Club.

Surviving are her daughters: Lynn (Bill Vance) Ahlers of Westlake, OH, Nancy (Phil) Taylor of St Louis, MO; dearest grandchildren: Elena N. Vance, Matthew W. Vance, Roger H. Taylor ; brothers: William E. (Irene) Wilt of Indiana, PA, Tim H. Wilt of Fairfield Township, PA.

A reception celebrating Joan’s life will be held September 3, from 1-4 p.m. at the Catawba Island Club.  Interment will take place in Fort Palmer Cemetery in Ligonier, PA, at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Joan to Lake Erie Nature & Science Center, 28728 Wolf Rd., Bay Village, OH 44140.  On line condolences may be shared with the family at


Donald F. Mulinix, Sr. Nov. 3, 1914-Aug. 23, 2014

Donald F. Mulinix, Sr., 99, of Oak Harbor, died Saturday, August 23, at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor.  He was born on November 3, 1914 in East Toledo, to Bert F. and Alma (Davenport) Mulinix, Jr.  

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 26, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27.  Interment will follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Stein Hospice, Sandusky.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at

Clarence "Bud" J. Palmer May 13, 1926-Aug. 20, 2014

Clarence "Bud" J. Palmer, 88, of Rocky Ridge, died Wednesday morning, August 20, at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.  He was born May 13, 1926, in Rice Township, Ohio, to Clarence, Sr. and Dorothy L. (Henry) Palmer.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., Friday, August 22, at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 23, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 215 N. Church St., Oak Harbor, where the body will lie in state from 9:30-10:30 a.m. one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow in Limestone Cemetery, Graytown.  The family has suggested memorials for Bud to be given to St. Boniface Catholic Church or Stein Hospice, 1200 N. Catherine “Katie” Geraldine (Herzog) Jacoby

Catherine “Katie” Geraldine (Herzog) Jacoby, 90, of Port Clinton died Wednesday, Aug. 19, under Stein Hospice care at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor.  Born on April 27, 1924, in Sandusky, Catherine was the daughter of George and Lucille V. (Bechtel) Herzog. On Nov. 8, 1958, she married Henry A. “Hank” Jacoby of Sandusky. He served as Port Clinton Police Department chief for 20 years before retiring in 1985.


Yvonne M. Hall June 29, 1952-Aug. 17, 2014

Yvonne M. Hall, 62, of Oak Harbor, died peacefully on Sunday, August 17, at Stein Hospice with family by her side.  She was born June 29, 1952, in Port Clinton, to Alvena (Kardotzke) and Ralph T. Huston, Sr.

Visitation will be at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home& Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor, from 2-8 p.m., Thursday, August 21, with the family present 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday, August 22, at Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, 360 E. Robert Demas Barnes June 28, 1925-Aug. 16, 2014

Robert Demas Barnes, resident of Lakeside and formerly of Columbus, passed away on August 16 at Otterbein Nursing Home. Robert was born on June 28, 1925 to Mildred and Carl Barnes.


Robert was a Navy Veteran of World War II and was an Aviation Ordnance Turret Mechanic who was stationed in Pensicola, FL, before being deployed to the Pacific. He was an avid fisherman and boater and a loyal Ohio State University football fan.

Robert is survived by his children Susan (Dale) Henry of West Jefferson; Thomas (Robin) Barnes of Lakeside; and Betsy (Tom) Moore of Lancaster; his brother Richard (Nancy) Barnes of Huron; his grandchildren Andy (Lori) Brown of Colorado Springs, CO; Jason (Chrissy) Brown of Waynesville; Katie (Scott) Maietta of Westerville, Megan (Kaleb) Weaver of Carmel, IN; Jeff (Heather) Brown of West Jefferson; Maggie Gilbert of Port Clinton; and his great grandchildren Alexandra, Sydney, and Reese Brown, Emma, Becca and Abby Brown, and Brynley Maietta.

Robert is proceeded in death by his wife of 55 years, Margaret, his parents, Mildred and Carl, and his brother, Carl Jr.


Donations in Robert’s memory can be given to Stein Hospice.
