Thank you from Wreaths Across America

Dear Community, 

We would like to take this opportunity to thank so many of you for the success of Wreaths Across America. On Dec. 14th, Catawba Island Township Cemetery took part in a very special tradition of placing Christmas wreaths on the gravesites of veterans. The support, help and donations that were provided to us by this wonderful community were amazing. We truly are at a loss for words. The weather was cold, windy and snowy, but the ceremony was absolutely perfect.

TOPS OH 1487, Port Clinton Chapter recognizes new KOPS graduate

On Nov. 19, Juanita Larson was honored at TOPS OH1487, with achieving her KOPS, (Keep Off Pounds Sensibility) status. She reached her goal weight on Oct. 1.

Juanita said, “I have struggled with weight for several years and have always enjoyed various activities with my husband, Warren.” Two years ago Juanita was diagnosed with cancer, and her life turned upside down. She no longer had the energy to do the things Warren and she so enjoyed. The additional weight she carried hindered her recovery. After nearly dying from the treatment, Juanita decided to turn to ‘Dr. GOD’. She still has cancer, but with the encouragement of her TOPS friends and husband Warren, she is in remission and has achieved her KOPS goal.

Jessie Schenk Turkey Chase has record turnout

The fourth annual Jessie Schenk Turkey Chase took place Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Catawba Island Club. Mike Schenk, father of Jessie, said that there were about 250 runners/walkers at the event which makes it the most they’ve ever had. In 2009, the Schenk’s lost their daughter and they set up a scholarship fund to help Port Clinton High School graduates who maintain a 3.2 or higher GPA and are also athletes. Jessie ran track and cross country at PCHS.
