Community Christmas celebration in downtown Port Clinton

Main Street Port Clinton’s Downtown Promotion Committee is organizing our annual Community Christmas event for Saturday, Dec. 7.  This year is extra special since the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council has teamed up with Main Street to host a Christkindl Markt from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of US Bank located at 142 E. Second Street. Warm beverages, food, holiday music, arts, and holiday gifts will be found in abundance.

A special boy who has touched a community is laid to rest

Friday morning Devin Kohlman was laid to rest after a beautiful, moving ceremony at Immaculate Conception Church in Port Clinton. Hundreds gathered for the services and by the beginning of the funeral there was standing room only. The ceremony began with Devin’s friends and football teammates filing down the aisle and taking a knee one last time for Devin.

Scripture was read by family and close friends and then Father John Missler gave the eulogy. The Father spoke comforting words to those in attendance, saying that to grieve so whole-heartedly only means that we are full of love and compassion.

Island Safe Animal Sanctuary rescues NaNa

NaNa with Nancy Benevento-Brown at Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary

Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary at 360 E. State Street in Port Clinton rescued an older stray from the Westlake Police Department on Tuesday. "How can you say no?" said shelter CEO Nancy Benevento-Brown. “We named her NaNa and she is about 10 yrs old; only has 2 teeth. She weighs 8 lbs. and needs some weight. And she is blind and a little deaf. Her ears were filthy, and her nails were curled into the pads of her feet. She must have had a terrible flea infestation and is missing a lot of hair from waist down.”  She was given a medicated bath and ears cleaned and nails trimmed, goes outside to potty and wants to roam the office area. “She does not like to be in her 5 ft X 5 ft kennel at all, which tells me she had a nice home somewhere. But no one was looking for her,” said Benevento-Brown.
