P.O.R.T.S. bringing Tall Ships to Port Clinton

People Organizing the Return of the Tall Ships Committee (P.O.R.T.S.) is excited to announce the Battle of Lake Erie Bicentennial events in Port Clinton.  The entire community will be celebrating the 200 years of freedom gained by Commander Oliver Hazard Perry’s victory some twelve miles from the mouth of the Portage River.

Skipper Bud’s Fishing Derby will be at Walleye Festival

The Skipper Bud’s Kids Fishing Derby at the Main Street Port Clinton Walleye Festival is scheduled for Sunday, May 26, from 12-1:30 p,m.  This free family-oriented event will be held at Derby Pond.

All children ages 12 and under are invited to participate.  Trophies for each age group will be awarded in each of the following categories: longest, shortest, most fish caught and most unique.  Trophies will be presented in the Entertainment Tent at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

ICS grows with Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District

Becky Simpson and Jackie Lammers from the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District visited Immaculate Conception School in Port Clinton and gave the school a lesson on being good stewards to our earth. The pair told the students the important role they can play in making our earth a healthy and beautiful place for all just by conserving, recycling and not polluting.Each student received a pine tree sapling to plant at home.

Ms. Simpson and Ms. Lammers told the children that a single tree can provide enough oxygen for about 4 people. There are 20,000 species of trees in the world.
