GPCAAC holds third Art Walk of the season

On Thursday, July 24, the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council held its third Art Walk of the season. Art Walks are held the fourth Thursday of the month from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Port Clinton. The theme of this Art Walk was Ecogreen Sculptures.

In addition to the Art Walk, Lake Erie Adventure Play (LEAP) held a pop-up playground in front of Ida Rupp Library. Kids created adventures out of cardboard, fabric and other recycled material using their imaginations. There was also music and a farmer’s market.

Royce celebrates 80 years

On Saturday, July 12, a large family reunion and 80th birthday party was held for Royce Ann Oliver (nee Hardy) at Touch of Italy Bed and Breakfast in Port Clinton. Royce is the mother of Deborah Pufnock, owner of the Bed and Breakfast, and Linda Sleasman, of Amherst. Family members came from Tennessee, Twinsburg, Amherst, and Cleveland. 

Royce suffered a second brain bleed on December 8 of 2013, and is on her way to recovery. She has 13 great grandchildren and all were present with the exception of: her oldest great-grandchild, Jordan, who was in Costa Rica for the second time on a mission trip; Lizzie, 17, who is in Tennessee, and Jakob who is serving in the United States Marine Corps.

Junior Pilot Camp graduates 15

On Friday, July 18, there were 15 graduates in the Erie-Ottawa International Airport’s July Junior Pilot Camp. At the camp the children learned the basics of flying and had hands-on experience in the physics of flight and were exposed to airport maintenance and management. There was also an introductory flight on an airplane and in a rotorcraft, a tour of the airport and gave the children an opportunity to meet and talk with pilots.

At the graduation on Friday, family and friends of the graduates gathered to watch the last act of the pilot camp which was a Jeopardy battle. The pilot Jeopardy gave students a chance to show what they learned during the camp. In first place there was a tie between Max Steinhauser and Jackson Kennedy. They even tied in final Jeopardy. In second place was Jon Brausch.
