B-C-S Schools welcome new administrators

Cheryl Schell, Principal at Oak Harbor High School

Students in the Benton-Carroll-Salem School District will be welcomed by two new dynamic and energetic building administrators on the first day of school, August 26.  Mrs. Cheryl Schell has taken the helm as the Principal of Oak Harbor High School and is proud to be a Rocket.

“Mrs. Schell is very excited about her new leadership role and brings will bring a wealth of student-centered leadership experience to our high school,” said Superintendent Guy Parmigian.   “Cheryl is eager to meet staff, students, and community members, and is currently working and meeting with folks this month to make a smooth transition,” Parmigian added.

Community Markets wins Oak Harbor Chamber Independence Day fundraiser

In late May, the Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce kicked off a fundraising campaign for their annual Independence Day Celebration. Patriotic stars were sold at several businesses throughout town, and the response was wonderful. 

“We would like to thank all of the businesses that sold the stars and all of the people who purchased them,” says Valerie Winterfield, Executive Director. “It is a great feeling to see the town rally together and support this wonderful event, and we are grateful for all of the contributions.”

Community Markets in Oak Harbor raised the most money, bringing in over $1,200 in donations with cashier Cathe Riffle selling the most stars. There have also been several donations by businesses in town and private citizens.

Don Epke wins best in show at Riverview Car Show

The Riverview HealthCare Campus hosted a car, truck and bike show on their grounds Sunday, June 29.  The display featured twelve cars of various makes and models, with the best of show trophy going to Riverview resident Donald Epke for his 1927 Ford Model T.  His car has been a project lasting about 20 years. Installed on his ‘made in the USA’ automobile are many additional accessories considered upgrades during that time period, including bumpers, a speedometer, wind wings, wire wheels, and a dashboard light.
