| Black Swamp Conservancy establishes endowment fund |
|
PERRYSBURG — Black Swamp Conservancy has established an endowment fund with Toledo Community Foundation. The fund is known as “Black Swamp Conservancy Endowment Fund.” “We are pleased to partner with Toledo Community Foundation to establish the Black Swamp Conservancy Endowment Fund,” said Kevin Joyce, the Conservancy’s executive director. “Families all across northwest Ohio will benefit from the financial stability this fund gives us to pursue our land conservation mission.” An endowment fund at a charitable organization is one in which the invested principal is generally not drawn upon but grows through additional donations, while the fund’s investment income is used to support the organization. Investment income from the Black Swamp Conservancy Endowment Fund will be used to support the operating, program and capital needs of the Conservancy. Gifts to Black Swamp Conservancy Endowment Fund can be sent either to the Conservancy in Perrysburg or to the Community Foundation in Toledo. “We are in the business of protecting family farms and natural areas, such as woods and wetlands, in perpetuity — in other words, forever,” Joyce said. “This endowment fund is another important step in our effort to become a truly sustainable organization through the planned giving program we have established.” Planned giving is a process by which a donor commits to making a gift to a specific charity that maximizes the donor’s tax and other financial benefits. The benefits can include income tax savings, tax-sheltered lifetime income, supplemental retirement income and gift and estate tax savings. A planned gift can take the form of cash, stocks and other investments, life insurance, land or other assets, and can be made during the donor’s lifetime or upon death. For information about planned gifts to Black Swamp Conservancy, call Joyce at 419-872-5263. Black Swamp Conservancy has permanently protected more than 8,000 acres of family farms and natural areas in 12 counties since its founding in 1993. Information about the Conservancy, including its Lake Erie Islands Chapter, is available online at www.blackswamp.org.
