Festivities under way

The fair was in full swing by Monday night when Zak Avers and Molly Hansen were named this year’s Ottawa County Junior Fair king and queen. The 2010 Junior Fair court: Alex Wilhelm (left), Shannon Novin, Zak Avers, Molly Hansen and Kayla Castillo. PHOTO BY DEBI HEIKS
Hansen, 19, is attending The University of Toledo majoring in middle childhood education. She has been involved in Country Kids 4-H, Jr. Fair Board, CarTeens and is a camp counselor. Molly wrote in her essay that she would like to become a role model as queen, as prior queens were to her as she was growing up, because “there is no better feeling than being an influencing factor in a child’s happiness.” Hansen is the daughter of Richard and Tracy Hansen.
Avers, 17, will be a senior at Woodmore High School this fall. Zak is a member of Jr. Leadership, Jr. Fairboard, Country Crew 4-H and participates in football and basketball at school. Zak stated in his essay how much he loves the fair, and looks forward to representing the fair this coming year as king. Avers is the son of Steve and Peggy Avers.
The fair continues through Saturday with a variety of entertainment options: demilition derby, music, motorcycle racing, tractor pull, chainsaw carving and more. Information and tickets are available by calling the Fair Office at 419-898-1971 or by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
