| June home sales up |
|
Home sales activity in Ottawa, Erie and Huron counties is up from 2009 levels, according to the latest statistics provided by the Ohio Association of Realtors. OAR President Douglas McCloud said the primary cause of increased activity across Ohio was the finalization of purchases resulting from the federal home buyer tax credit program that expired in April.
“It proved to be a big boost to Ohio’s housing market,” he said. On the local level, the Firelands Association of Realtors reported a 15.7 percent increase in the number of home sales in June 2010 compared to June 2009. The total dollar volume also rose more than 18 percent while the average sale price rose 2.2 percent in the same time frame. For the first six months of 2010, the number of home sales in the Firelands market area were up 10 percent, while the dollar volume of those sales rose nearly 21 percent from $89 million to $107 million. The average sale price for homes rose from just under $100,000 to almost $110,000. Also on the local level, developers and Realtors reported having an excellent weekend of traffic during the recent Catawba/Marblehead Parade of Homes sponsored by The Beacon. There was one confirmed sale that came out of that event: a retired couple from western Pennsylvania purchased a unit at Beach Towne at Gem Beach two days after visiting that location during the Parade of Homes. Paul Shaw, general manager of the Vineyard on Catawba, said the volume and quality of the traffic generated that weekend was excellent.
