Magruder, Senior Resources collaborate on screening

Magruder Hospital and Ottawa County Senior Resources will offer free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings at two of the local Senior Centers. The Port Clinton Senior Center will have a screening 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 11; the Danbury Senior Center will have a screening 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 18.

Senior levy campaign kicks off

The Ottawa County Senior Levy Renewal Campaign will officially kick-off at the third annual Pot O’ Gold  Game Day hosted by the Ottawa County Senior Activities Committee. Game day will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at Riverview Healthcare Campus, 8180 W. Ohio 163, Oak Harbor.
Seniors and guests are invited to participate in a variety of games of such as cards, dominoes or are welcomed to bring their own games. The highlight of the event will be a Wii Bowling Tournament with a traveling trophy to be awarded to the winning site.

Garden Club makes lotion bars

The Vineyard on Catawba Garden Club met Feb. 24 to make lotion bars. These are handmade gifts are not a soap, but rather used after washing the hands to soften the skin. Thelma Wood, resident, proudly displays her table’s lemon lotion bars.Lotion bars are great after a long day of weeding the garden.
This club is headed by Vicki Van Zoest, master gardener, at The Vineyard on Catawba, and meets once a month to discuss and make garden-related items.

Danbury seniors bond over Wii bowling

Walking in the door, you would never know you were entering a senior center. There is plenty of cheering, foot stomping and even a little heckling. You would swear you were at a high school basketball game, but theWinners “Stanlene’s Terrors” are (left to right): Stanlene Zimmerman, Doris Van Allen, Shirley Pryor, Roberta Glasmyer, Carrie Sowards, Paula Shenkel and Shirley Lynch. seniors in Danbury have decided to beat the winter blues by playing the Wii. They just completed a four-week bowling tournament.
Each team comprised of seven individuals; the winning team was calculated by the most points after four weeks of play. Winners “Stanlene’s Terrors” had a total of 3,793 points after the four weeks beating “Emmet’s Warriors” who scored 3,757.  Edgewood Manor donated gift cards for each of the members of the winning team.
