In the Soup Category: First place — Gwen Valenti, second place — Mary Ellen Koras, third place — Lisa Assim and fourth place — Mary Kinsey. Many thanks to our sponsors: Sloopy’s, Bruno’s, Arby’s, Avery’s, Marblehead Galley, Walmart, Erie Market, Brown’s Dairy and Mutach’s for their contributions. Everyone left very full and can’t wait till next year. Deb Miller St. Joseph Church School Bucks Thanks to area and local businesses, parents and all volunteers, the seventh grade class at Oak Harbor Junior High was able to celebrate its 13th annual “School Bucks” auction. Students were able to bid on and buy items that were donated by local businesses, parents and educators. The students earned their “School Bucks” for achievement in the classroom, as well as for good behavior during the second grading period. The seventh grade team would like to thank Kevin Fox, a local auctioneer and friend of the community for volunteering his time and energy in making this auction great. The team also sends its appreciation out to the area and local businesses, parents, and volunteers, who without their generous donations and time-consuming efforts, the auction would not be possible. Oak Harbor Junior High seventh-graders Iraq steel plant It was just announced a new $3 billion dollar steel plant that will manufacture 3 million tons of steel per year and a 500MW gas-fired electric power generation plant will be built in southern region of Iraq. The contract winner: South Korea! The contract loser, United States, Ohio and the associated technology, engineering and manufacturing jobs. Ohio also loses the future steel export business and domestic jobs. This is the best example of job creation, just not for Americans. A real thank you for our country’s sacrifice? Anybody listening?
