American Red Cross thanks Gala attendees and supporters

The American Red Cross of Ottawa County hosted the Boogie Woogie Bugle Girls of Company Red Friday, July 19, at the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton. The 6th annual Club Red fundraising gala was a benefit for local Red Cross disaster relief and recovery.

This year’s theme encouraged guests to wear World War II or USO apparel as they were transported to the 40’s for the evening. Guests to the sold-out affair enjoyed hors d’oeuvres with dinner provided by Zinc Brasserie. Honored guests were Dr. Harold Brown and his wife, Dr. Marsha Bordner, as well as Dorothy “Dottie” Patrick. Retired Lt. Col. Brown served as a Tuskegee Airman and flew a Red Tail P-51 Mustang during World War II. He was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in March 2007 for his brave service and dedication to our country. Dottie, an accomplished pilot, is a past member of the women aviators group, ‘Ninety-Nines, Inc.’, and an active member of the Erie-Ottawa County Airport Authority. Gala chair Danis Putzbach shared her personal memory of Patrick building a plane in the Patrick family room and then flying it.
