Cattle getting sprayed to keep cool
The Ottawa County Republican Women in conjunction with the Salvation Army are sponsoring a Back to School Backpack Drive. The Drive will benefit the Port Clinton, Oak Harbor, Genoa and Elmore communities with backpacks and school supplies for families unable to purchase them.
The collection of backpacks and supplies goes through August 3. There are listings of supplies needed and drop off boxes at Bassett’s Market in Port Clinton, Miller’s New Market in Genoa, Mann Technologies in Williston, Pills & Packages in Elmore and Community Market in Oak Harbor.
Gem Beach yoga has been discontinued for the rest of the summer. For five years Gem Beach has hosted yoga in the mornings, and participants have contributed hundreds of dollars to United Way in Ottawa County.
State Senator Randy Gardner (R-Bowling Green) completed the recent legislative session with his career-long 100% voting record intact.
Gardner, who represents Fulton, Lucas, Wood, Ottawa and Erie counties in the Senate, did not miss any roll call votes during the first half of 2013 (149 votes). He has not missed a roll call vote on any bill or amendment as a member of the House of Representatives or Senate since 1985, bringing his consecutive voting streak to 9,281 votes.
Magistrate Louis P. Wargo III presided over a special session of the Ottawa County Municipal Court Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. Wargo recognized a graduate of its Benchmark Alcohol/Drug and Mental Health Intervention Court Program, the 22nd graduate overall, after its regularly scheduled weekly session. The Court session, followed by a reception for the graduate and his supporters, honored the program’s graduate for his successful completion of the approximately two (2) year court program. Judge Frederick C. Hany II, as he’s stated in the past, noted that “Since its inception in July 2008, the Benchmark Program has served the families and citizens of Ottawa County by addressing the County’s mental health and substance abuse issues. That this is the Court’s 22nd graduate, speaks volumes, in and of itself, as to the court’s long term commitment to the families and citizens of this county.”
On Tuesday and Friday mornings Lakeside’s Walnut Street becomes a Farmer’s Market. Local produce and baked goods, homemade pies, flowers and herbs are available.
