Ribbon Cutting for Salon 53 Friday

The Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the grand opening of Salon 53, located at 3958 Harbor Light Landing.  The Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, Aug. 9, at 2:30 p.m. Grand Opening specials include $5 off pedicures and $5 off haircuts.

Salon 53 is a full service hair and nail salon dedicated to service and value.  Brenda Belcher, owner/stylist, along with her creative team, are experts in all hair types and textures.  Salon 53 offers a full range of services for women, men, and children including cut and style, color, highlights and keratin treatments.  You may also indulge in a spa manicure, pedicure, or full body waxing.

Redskin fans, get your Sport Passes

Port Clinton High School has Sports Passes on sale beginning Aug. 12in the PCHS Main Office from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.  Rick Dominick, PCHS Athletic Director, has announced a new pricing policy that make passes a great deal for avid Redskin fans. All-Sport Passes admit the pass holder to all home athletic events. Adult passes will now be $50 and student All Sport Passes will be $25. Senior Citizen Passport, for residents of the district age 60 and older, are free. Residents can apply for a Senior Skins Passport at the high school office or Board of Education Office at 811 S. Jefferson Street, entrance at east end of new Middle School, or submit an electronic application at www.pccsd.net under the Community link.

Mona Rutger special guest at Conservation Day

The 9th Annual Conservation Day event will be held in front of the Camp Store at East Harbor State Park on Saturday, Aug. 10. The majority of the activities will be held between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. This event is open to the public. Admission is free. Various agencies will be represented with displays and activities for kids and adults. There will also be food available for a donation.

Edgewood Manor celebrates Christmas in July

Santa stops at Edgewood Manor

On his way to Cancun, Santa Claus made an unscheduled stop at Edgewood Manor Nursing & Rehab Center for their annual Christmas in July celebration. With presents in hand, he was dressed in his summer vacation attire complete with red t-shirt, flowered Bermuda shorts, flip flops, sunglasses and a red sun visor.

National Rifle Matches in full swing

The rhythmic pop, pop, pop from the firing of a hundred guns interspersed with the tower's authoritative commands provide the soundtrack each morning for five weeks in July and August at Camp Perry near Port Clinton. The slightly acrid scent of gunpowder mixes with the fresh, cool air off Lake Erie for a heady aroma that lingers over the country's largest rifle range at the National Rifle and Pistol Matches.

Sean Black gets 3rd in Michigan Junior Masters

Port Clinton's Sean Black finished 3rd in the Michigan Junior 

Masters Tournament at Lodge Lanes in Belleville, MI, on Saturday. Black qualified 6th with 1119 for 6 games.

He defeated Alex Oulette from Linwood, MI, 390-387, in match 1. He defeated Zack Brandt from Kalamazoo, MI, 387-363 in the 2nd match.Black lost to the 2013 Michigan High School Bowler of the Year Jeffrey Pietryka from McComb, MI, 415-471, in the semi final match. Sean won a $175 scholarship for finishing 3rd.

Black said, "I was able to grind out what I could on a very difficult 39' sport lane condition where scoring was low.I turned it on when it got to match play and found greater success. Overall, I am happy with the way I bowled for the day and now I have to keep working hard to continue to have top 5 finishes in a lot more tournaments to give me confidence heading into the collegiate level."
