Port Clinton golfers earn SBC honors

Port Clinton Senior Joey Kurtz has earned the Sandusky Bay Conference Player of the Year Award in Boys Golf for 2013. Joey had the Lowest or Best Average of all Varsity Golfers in the League this year. He is only the 5th Player from PCHS to earn this Award. 


PC boys defeat Perkins in soccer

Monday night Port Clinton Boys traveled to Perkins. The final score was Port Clinton 4, Perkins 2. The goals for PC were scored by Ben Heminger (1) and Simon Shulz (3). The assists were provided by Logan Hepp (1), Alec Ochs (1) and Ben Heminger(1).Tytan Rumball had three saves in goal. Port Clinton’s record is currently 9-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in conference play.


Oak Harbor Volleyball supports food pantry

The Athletic Department and the Oak Harbor Volleyball Team are teaming up to put food in the BCS food pantry. Anyone that brings two cans of food to the home volleyball game Thursday Oct. 3, Oak Harbor vs. SMCC, will get in free.


Cheerios in the Pew

Friday morning my wife and I were sitting on the couch having a cup of coffee together before the kids woke up for school. Just as we had settled into our seats Rachel checked her phone for any messages. That’s when we found out that John Drummer had passed away. Our hearts both sank into the couch in disbelief.


Port Clinton High School announces Student of the Month

Port Clinton High School Student of the Month for September is Shelby Gerwin. Shelby has been involved in numerous activities during her high school career. She has been a member of National Honor Society, Leadership Council, Freshman Mentor and International Club. In addition, she has been a four year member of the PCHS Band and Redskin Soccer Team. Outside of school, Shelby took dance lessons for 12 years.  

Next year, Shelby plans to major in Mathematics at Ohio Northern and continue her soccer career.  Shelby is the daughter of Doug and Kristen Gerwin.


Danbury swim lessons

Swim lessons begin at Danbury School in Marblehead on Monday, Oct. 7, and will run thru Thursday, Oct. 17. Level 1 lessons are from 4-5 p.m. and Level 3 lessons are from 5-6 p.m.

Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. are adult swim lessons. To sign up or for additional information, call Cynthia Fisk at 419-357-1182.


Below 50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Below celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 15 with a family party. Their children surprised them by presenting them with a family vacation for a week in July at Hilton Head Island, SC, with their children and their families. High-school sweethearts, Richard and Carol (Chapman) were married March 15, 1963, in Monroe, MI. Richard retired from Vita-Plate Battery in Port Clinton and Carol is retired from the Tadsen Insurance Agency in Port Clinton. They are the proud parents of Richard Below (Holly Kinsey), Mary Jo (Tim) Scott, Rachel (Ivaylo) Klimentov, all of Port Clinton and Jeffrey Below (Liz Sargent) of Perkins Twp. They have seven wonderful grandchildren: Janie Below, Jordan and Breanna Below, Stone and Beau Scott, Eva and Maya Klimentov and one great-grandchild, Carolyn Below.


Oak Harbor Apple Festival Court

The Oak Harbor Apple Festival Royalty held preliminaries to choose the 2013-2014 Apple Blossom and Johnny Appleseed on Sunday, Sept. 8. The judges have chosen Laney Schmidt as this year’s Apple Blossom and Madison Torres as Apple Blossom Attendant. Noah Haycox has been chosen as the 2013-2014 Johnny Appleseed.


ICS focuses on parents

Last Friday the fourth graders at Immaculate Conception School had a very special visitor. Judge Kathleen Giesler stopped in to Mrs. Jacki Brown’s classroom to tell the students about Ottawa County’s upcoming Parents’ Week and the writing contest among area 4th grade students. Ottawa County’s Parents’ Week is Oct. 20 through Oct. 26 this year.
