East Harbor Halloween Campout

This weekend, Oct. 11 and 12, East Harbor State Park is hosting its annual Halloween Campout. East Harbor’s Halloween Campout is the biggest Halloween celebration in all of the state parks in Ohio. Almost all of the 574 campsites are full and some of the campsites have been booked six months in advance. This is the last weekend for the event that, because of popular demand, now runs for two weekends. Saturday morning campers will have a sausage gravy and biscuit breakfast available from 8-9:30 a.m. After breakfast the family fun begins:

Bataan Tailgate party

Parents, students, and staff at Bataan Memorial Primary & Intermediate Schools gathered for a tailgate party prior to the Oct. 4 football game.  Bataan Parents Club provided the refreshments and Port Clinton High School students helped with the event. Oak Harbor loses to Margaretta in volleyball

Oak Harbor’s Varsity Rockets were defeated by Margaretta in 4 Tuesday night, 21 - 25, 9 - 25, 31 - 25, 19 - 25.  Rebekah Rayburn had 14 kills, Annie Quisno had 11 assists, Cassie Brenneman had 18 digs, and Kasey Sundermeier had 6 aces.  The JV team lost in 2.  The Rockets take on Gibsonburg Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 6:15 @ Bellevue for their first sectional match.

Danbury rallies to defeat Emmanuel Christian

With an outstanding team effort, the Danbury Lakers volleyball varsity finished their season with a comeback victory against Emmanuel Christian on Thursday night. After losing the first set 17-25, the Lakers took the next three 25-20, 25-23, 25-15.

Seniors Lindsay Mark, Erin Lavelle and Allison Ahrens were honored before the game, and made their last match a memorable one.

Port Clinton High School DECA recently traveled to the University of Findlay for the DECA Independent Association Competition. The following PCHS students placed in their respective events.

Job Interview:  2nd – Eryn Nason (White Division); 2nd -  Nathan Haghiri (Blue Division); 3rd – Tarrynn Edgefield; 5th – Ashley Gill.
Employability/DECA Human Relations Test:  6th – Alexis Cash.

American Red Cross offers safe cooking tips

The American Red Cross responds to thousands of fires in peoples’ homes every year and most of those fires occur while someone is cooking. The focus of this year’s National Fire Prevention Week is “Prevent Kitchen Fires” and the Red Cross is offering fire prevention tips. 

Last year, the American Red Cross Northwest Ohio Region responded to 563 fires, providing local families with food, clothing, temporary shelter, comfort kits, medication reimbursement, and more.
