Tiffany Colston joins the 1,000 point club

Update: as of Tuesday nights game against Oak Harbor, Tiffany Colston has reached 1,000 points in her high school career. Congratulations Tiffany!

Colston closes in on 1,000 points

The Redskin girls cruised to a 60-35 victory over Huron behind 19 points from forward Tiffany Colston. The win, which puts Port Clinton at 14-3 overall and 9-2 in the Sandusky Bay Conference, keeps the ‘Skins in contention for second place in the conference.

Following her performance, Colston is now seven points short of eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for her career. Hope Thorbahn finished with 11 points and Hannah Weaver chipped in with 10 to help pace the Port Clinton attack.

Thank you Port Clinton Fire Dept.

Unfortunately, I did not have the honor of meeting Firefighters Dickman and Machinski of the Toledo Fire Department.  However, from the many stories and tributes I’ve read and watched on TV, I know exactly what type of person these gentlemen were and I have no doubt their legacy will live on for decades to come.

How do I know this? For the past six years and more I’ve had the privilege of working closely, sometimes daily, with the men and women of the Port Clinton Fire Department.  As I heard and read the many stories and memorials of these two fallen heroes’ lives, I saw in these stories the faces of the members of our local fire department.

Port Clinton High School announces Students of the Month for December and January

Elise Zeitzheim is a member of Port Clinton High School Leadership Council and Redskin Swim Team.   Elise has been in the PCHS Band for four years and was the clarinet section leader this year.  She is a Freshmen Mentor and outside of school is a lifeguard.   Elise has been earning college credits while still in high school by participating in Port Clinton High Schools Post Secondary Educational Options (PSEO) Courses.  She is the daughter of Eric and Diane Zeitzheim.  Next year she plans to further her education at Ohio University majoring in either Journalism or Media Arts & Studies.

Magruder Hospital celebrates the renovation of 1 South

On Monday, Feb. 3, Magruder Hospital held an open house and ribbon cutting for the newly renovated 1 South wing of the hospital. 1 South is home to the oncology department which is partnered with University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Physicians offering hematology services and infusion therapy, sleep medicine, outpatient cardiac clinic, respiratory therapy and services and an employee health station.

“The entire wing is dedicated to oncology and outpatient services,” said Kathy Durflinger, RN, Vice President of Nursing. “We want to keep the area private for a healing environment.”

Coffee with the Editor starting Feb. 5 at Common Grounds

The Beacon is teaming up with Common Grounds to start a community discussion group with our editor Jasmine Cupp called Coffee with the Editor. Members of the community are invited to bring suggestions, opinion and discussion to Common Grounds Wednesday mornings at 9 a.m.

Common Grounds will be offering 99¢ small coffees with one refill available for the event. Mild and dark roasts, one flavored coffee and decaf are always available along with a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items.

Coffee with the Editor will not be held if Ottawa County is under a level 2 or 3 snow emergency.
