Oak Harbor Apple Festival is October 12-13

The Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Apple Festival this year on Oct. 12-13. This family oriented festival has over 25,000 visitors attending annually. It is held in downtown Oak Harbor with all activities located within a one block walking area. The crowning of the 2013-2014 Royalty Court is at opening ceremonies on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by the cutest baby contest.

Mandatory Meeting for PCHS winter athletes and parents

There will be a mandatory meeting for all Port Clinton High School winter sport athletes and their parents. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the PCHS Performing Arts Center. Ohio High School Athletic Association requires these mandatory parent-athlete meetings. Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary will be celebrating the first anniversary and reunion of Butterscotch’s brood on Oct. 13 from 12-3 p.m. Butterscotch is a rescue dog who gave birth to a litter of 13 puppies on Oct. 14 and 15, 2012, at the Sanctuary.

Port Clinton tennis at Districts

Three Lady Redskins competed at the District Tournament at BGSU on Wednesday.

Kelsey Dietrich lost to Claire Oates (Kenton) 6-4, 6-1.

Tiffany Colston & Morgan McGlothlin in Round 1 defeated Morgan Schaeffer & Karyn Schmidt (Edison) 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. In Round 2 they lost to Megan Healy & Kelsy Berry (Ottawa Hills) 6-3, 6-4.

Danbury loses in heartbreaking fashion, 22-17

The Danbury Lakers are two plays away from being 4-2 instead of 2-4.

One of those plays came in their 22-17 loss on Friday to Toledo Christian.

With Danbury holding a 17-13 lead late in the third quarter, TC quarterback Brett Freeman scored on a 10-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles ahead in a hard-fought game that featured several key momentum swings.

Rockets fall to Huron, drop to 3-3 on the year

Slowly but surely, Huron’s offense was able to make big plays when it needed to most before pulling away to defeat Oak Harbor, 34-7, Friday night in Sandusky Bay Conference action at Kalahari Field at Memorial Stadium.

The Tigers (4-2, 2-1 SBC) scored one touchdown in each of the first two quarters to take a 14-0 lead into the half before pulling away with 13 points in the third quarter as they built a 34-point lead.
