Oak Harbor goes 2-1 for the week

After Oak Harbor rallied from a three-run deficit to tie it up late, the St. Mary Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win, 4-3.

Mark Konieczny drove in A.J. Cecil with the tying run in the seventh with two outs. In the sixth, Ben Genzman started the rally with a single before the Rockets scored two runs to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Nate Segaard took the loss for the Rockets, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits.

Oak Harbor 13, Clyde 6

Holding a one-run lead in the fourth, the Rockets put the game away with three runs on its way to a 13-6 victory over Clyde.

A.J. Cecil went 4-for-5 with a double and two stolen bases and Andy Rathbun and Mark Konieczny drove in four runs apiece.

Brandon Uher got the win, allowing six runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work.

Oak Harbor 12, Tiffin Calvert 2 (5 inn.)

Oak Harbor took control from the outset, scoring nine runs in the first two innings on its way to defeating Tiffin Calvert, 12-2, in five innings.

A.J. Cecil went 3-for-4 with a triple and scored three times. Mark Konieczny went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs and Ben Genman had two RBIs to lead the Rockets.

Cecil got the win, allowing two runs on two hits in five innings of work. He struck out five and walked four.

Oak Harbor girls defeat Norwalk, 3-0

Behind a shutout from pitcher Sam Durivage, the Oak Harbor Rockets defeated Norwalk, 3-0, in a Division II Sectional Semifinal at Clyde High School last Saturday.

Besides allowing no runs in the circle, Durivage did some damage at the plate, hitting 2-for-4 and scoring a run.

Durivage got out of trouble in the first and second innings, getting help from center fielder Sydney Street, who made a diving catch to save a run in the second. For the game, Durivage (15-6) allowed no runs on eight hits in seven innings. She struck out four and didn't walk a batter.

The Rockets broke a scoreless tie in the fifth when Justine Webb singled with the bases loaded to give Oak Harbor a 1-0 lead. The next batter, Theresa Stokes, drove in two runs with a base hit up the middle to make it 3-0.

Rebecca Florio helped to pace the Rockets with a 2-for-3 performance and a run. With the win, Oak Harbor is now 19-6 on the season.

On Thursday, Oak Harbor faces Clyde at Clyde High School at 5 p.m. for the sectional title. The Fliers defeated Port Clinton, 10-0, on Saturday.

Oak Harbor 4, Gibsonburg 0

The Rockets took control from the start, scoring three runs in the first inning on its way to a 4-0 victory over Gibsonburg.

Sam Durivage, Rebecca Florio, Justine Webb and Theresa Stokes each went 2-for-3 and Webb had three RBIs. Sydney Street had the Rockets' other RBI.

PC boys tennis defeat Huron

Port Clinton Boys tennis took on Huron Monday in an SBC Conference match at Huron.  The Redskins prevailed and improved their record to 9-6 (6-4) with a 4-1 score.  Huron fell to 7-8.

The scores were as follows:

  • 1st Singles:  Matheus Rodrigues  (PC) def. Jake Guerrero (H) 6 - 0, 6 - 1
  • 2nd Singles:  Thomas Schneerdorfer (H) def. Leandro Papa (PC) 6 - 0, 6 - 1
  • 3rd Singles:  Ryan Norgard (PC) def. Patrick Dusza (H) 6 - 3, 7 - 6 (3)
  • 1st Doubles:  Matt Fillmore/Jeff Griffin (PC) def. Dakota Jones/Derrick Wray (H) 6 - 2, 6 - 2
  • 2nd Doubles:  Max Mercurio/Noah Cross (PC) def. Dylan Recard/Benji Battiste (H) 7 - 6 (5), 6 - 3

Coach Aaron Taylor: “Matheus went out and executed his game plan with perfection today, pushing past a very tough player in Jake.  Leandro stepped up to 2nd singles today due to our new doubles lineup and struggled with the hard hitting Thomas.  Ryan made his singles debut for this year and won a very hard fought victory.  Matt and Jeff continued their hot streak by putting away the 2nd Team SBCers Derrick and Dakota.  Max and Noah debuted together at 2nd doubles in preparation for sectionals and won a very close match.”

Oak Harbor Relay for Life Basketball Tournament

The Ottawa County Relay for Life third annual basketball tournament will be held on Saturday, June 8, at Oak Harbor High School. Teams will consist of 5-10 players (18 years of age or older). All games will be 5-on-5, and each team is guaranteed to play at least three games.

Registration starts at 8 a.m., and games will run from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Cost is $25/player if pre-registered; and $35 after June 1st. Cost includes a t-shirt, and trophies will be awarded to each player on the top two teams. Field will be limited to 16 teams (first come first served basis). The $125 fee (entries for 5 players) will reserve your team a spot in the tourney, and players can be added to the roster up until game day.

Sandusky to host first AAU Tournament

Next Level Images, located in Lorain, in conjunction with Sandusky Schools, Saint Mary's Central Catholic, and Margaretta schools will be hosting the first ever "Blue Streak Bash at Cedar Point". The Blue Streak Bash at Cedar Point is a multi-age AAU basketball tournament.

The tournament begins on Friday, May 17, and runs through Sunday, May 19. Championship games will be played at the "The Den" and "MPR" at St. Mary's Central Catholic and Bogart Elementary in Castalia.
