Lady Rockets improving

The Oak Harbor Girls’ Golf Team faced off with Maumee Monday in Oak Harbor and three Lady Rocket golfers scored personal bests.
Brooke Tice earned a par on the fourth and fifth holes to lead her team with a 50.
Kaylie Hallett-Szymanski (52) and Whitney Rutledge (54) also earned personal bests.
Maumee defeated Oak Harbor 190 to 210 as Emily Long led the Panthers with a 40.
Also golfing for the Lady Rockets were Cydney St. Clair (54), Paige Siguardson (56), Hannah Glass (63) and Kaylea Hepner (61).

Redskin tennis 1-1 after first week

The Lady Redskins recorded their first victory of the season with a 5-0 win over Fremont St. Joe, bringing their record to 1-1 overall.
• Morgan McGlothlin (PC) defeated Katie Blohm (SJ) — 6-1, 6-0
• Kelsey Dietrich (PC) defeated Tricia Reinhart (SJ) — 6-3, 6-3
• Eryn Binder (PC) defeated Kendra Molyet (SJ) — 6-2, 6-0
• Tiffany Colston/Libby Showalter (PC) defeated Caroline Darr/Kelsey Nevius (SJ) — 6-1, 6-2
• Lexi Fodor/Allison Long (PC) defeated Daniela Baez/Madie Collins (SJ) - 6-1, 6-1
“Everyone played well, said Coach Lindsay Smith. “Libby Showalter stepped into the first doubles spot (for an ill Katie Schroeder) and held her own.”
Molly Haberman, Taylor Steyer, Candace Smith all won in JV singles action.
PC travels to Edison to open SBC Conference play on Tuesday.

Chicken barbecue benefits OHHS football

Oak Harbor High School will be serving up a barbecue chicken dinner before the first home football game Friday, Aug. 24. The meal will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and catered by Blackberry Corners. Dinner includes a half chicken, baked beans, potato salad, roll with butter, drink and dessert for $8.50. Carry-out and dine-in service will be available.

Lady Thunderbolts travel softball tryouts

Lady Thunderbolts Travel Softball will be holding tryouts to fill openings on the 10U, 12U and 14U teams for next year. Tryouts will be held at Dorn Park, 699 Bardshar Road, in Sandusky, from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.

PCMS cross country practice begins

Practice for the Port Clinton Middle School cross country team began on Monday, Aug. 6. Students in grades seven and eight who want to participate should meet at the Port Clinton High School Main entrance at 8:30 a.m. for practice until 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The week of Aug. 13, practice will be held at East Harbor State Park. Students should meet at the Lockwood Shelter house at 8 a.m. for practice until 9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.
