Lady Thunderbolts travel softball tryouts

Lady Thunderbolts Travel Softball will be holding tryouts to fill openings on the 10U, 12U and 14U teams for next year. Tryouts will be held at Dorn Park, 699 Bardshar Road, in Sandusky, from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18.

PCMS cross country practice begins

Practice for the Port Clinton Middle School cross country team began on Monday, Aug. 6. Students in grades seven and eight who want to participate should meet at the Port Clinton High School Main entrance at 8:30 a.m. for practice until 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The week of Aug. 13, practice will be held at East Harbor State Park. Students should meet at the Lockwood Shelter house at 8 a.m. for practice until 9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Meeting required for Oak Harbor’s fall athletes

Each season, the Ohio High School Athletic Association requires that each member school have a meeting to prepare student-athletes and parents for the year ahead. Oak Harbor will host its fall mandatory OHSAA meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, July 23, in the Oak Harbor High School Auditorium. This meeting is for the parents of any student-athlete entering grades seven through 12 who plans on participating in a fall sport at Oak Harbor. At this meeting, important information will be handed out, new policies will be discussed and families will have a chance to meet the fall coaches. Plan on attending this important meeting if your son or daughter will be playing a fall sport at Oak Harbor.
Due to a scheduling conflict, the meeting for all parents of girls entering grades seven through 12 who plan to play volleyball will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, in the Oak Harbor High School Cafeteria.

Brian Zins wins 11th NRA National Pistol Championship

Brian “Gunny” Zins of Poland, Ohio, won his 11th National Pistol title this weekend during the NRA’s National Rifle & Pistol Championships in Camp Perry. Shooting an aggregate score of 2649-142x, Zins finished three points ahead of his nearest competitor.
“Considering that I took 18 months off due to an elbow injury, to win here in Camp Perry, it’s awesome,” said Zins. “I thought I was out after the .45 slow fire match. But I knuckled down and it worked out well.”

Lakers Reverse Raffle celebrates 20 years

Help the Danbury Laker Athletic Boosters support the kids both academically and athletically at the 20th annual Reverse Raffle on Saturday, Aug. 11, at St. Mary’s Hall. Because of great community support, the Boosters have been able to purchase uniforms, practice equipment and provide scholarships for our Laker Athletes. 
Tickets are $110 each (only 300 are sold), and include a complimentary dinner of honey-glazed chicken and prime rib prepared by Mesenburg Creative Catering and all drinks. An additional dinner can be purchased for $15. There will be sideboards, bingo and 50-50 raffles throughout the evening.
