A Cappella in the Park features Duwende

Port Clinton High School Choir Director Eric Watts has a concert planned for Sunday, May 18, 4:30 p.m., at Lakeview Park on Perry Street in Port Clinton. The event is a Contemporary A Cappella concert featuring North Olmsted High School’s Special Edition and Port Clinton High School’s own Touch of Class.

A special addition to this year’s concert is the award-winning a cappella group from New York City, Duwende. They are best know for their fiercely orginal, bass and beatbox-driving funk/pop style of music and have headlined major a cappella festivals across the country. Two of Duwende’s most recent albums, “Radio Screaming” and “Collective”, won the 2005 and 2008 Contemporary A cappella recording awards for Best Pop/Rock Album and Best Pop/Rock Original Song.

In 2011, Duwende released “Remember: the Music of Michael Jackson”, gaining them widespread acclaim and leading them to performances for the United Nations, Sundance Film Festival, Bill Clinton Global Initiative and the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Most recently, Duwende was featured as an international artist for the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia, sharing the bill with artists Stevie Wonder, Bobby McFerrin, Herbie Hancock and Erykah Badu.

The concert will offer everyone an opportunity to enjoy the sound of these talented high school students in the comfort of your own lawn chair or favorite picnic blanket. Port Clinton Music Boosters will provide picnic style concessions during the concert. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the PCHS cafeteria.
