After falling behind early, Oak Harbor’s baseball team scored three runs in the first to take the lead for good in its 9-3 victory over Port Clinton, earning the win in Sandusky Bay Conference action.
Down 1-0, the Rockets scored three runs in the first on RBIs by Andy Rathbun, Ben Genzman and Jourdan Maguire.
Oak Harbor pushed the lead to 4-1 but the Redskins responded with two runs of their own. However, the Rockets scored five unanswered runs to put the game away. Garrett Harvey had a key two-run double.
Aidan Rospert scored twice to lead Port Clinton, Ian Kyle scored once and Nolan Smith had an RBI.
Oak Harbor 3, Port Clinton 1
Oak Harbor manufactured three wins to defeat Port Clinton, 3-1, for its first league win of the year.
Garrett Harvey, Andy Rathbun and Ben Genzman scored the three Rocket runs and Zak Floro had an RBI groundout for the Redskins.
Harvey got the win for Oak Harbor, allowing one run on just two hits in six innings of work. He struck out six and walked five.
Harvey got out of several jams, allowing just one run in the third after walking Port Clinton's first three batters. He left runners on second and third in the fifth inning and got out of another jam in the sixth.
The Redskins got singles from Aidan Rospert and Drew Fodor, but had two runners thrown out at the plate, something that proved to be key.
Bellevue 9, Oak Harbor 8
Despite holding a six-run lead, Oak Harbor allowed Bellevue to score seven runs in the bottom of the seventh as the Redmen rallied to defeat the Rockets, 9-8, in non-conference action.
Shane Miller had two hits, two stolen bases and scored three runs. Bobby Roeser finished with two hits and two RBIs and Kyle Geary had a double. Luke Roth got the win for Bellevue. Garrett Harvey and Jourdan Maguire each had a double for Oak Harbor.
Edison 4, Oak Harbor 3 (8 innings)
Oak Harbor suffered another tough loss, blowing a one-run lead in the seventh inning as Edison came back to win, 4-3.
The Chargers, trailing 3-2, scored a run in the seventh to tie the game and won it in the eighth when Brandon Blitz hit a single to left to score Clay Cooper.
Down 2-0, the Rockets scored two runs in the sixth to tie the score and took a 3-2 lead by scoring a run in the top of the seventh.
Chris Smith got the win on the mound for Edison and Kyle Uher took the loss for Oak Harbor. Jourdan Maguire hit a double for the Rockets.
Margaretta 9, Port Clinton 2
Margaretta controlled this one throughout as the Polar Bears defeated Port Clinton, 9-2, in Sandusky Bay Conference action.
Austin Spicer led the way with four hits and Tyler Henderson finished with two hits.
Drew Fodor had two hits to lead the Redskins.
