Lakers fall but continue to make strides

Trailing by two heading into the fourth quarter, the Danbury Lakers fell short in their matchup with Maumee Valley Country Day, losing 56-45 last week in Toledo Area Athletic Conference action.

After falling behind 20-11 in the first quarter and 31-20 at halftime, Danbury outscored the Hawks 16-7 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 38-36 heading into the final period.

Unfortunately, MVCD outscored the Lakers 18-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Thad Woodard led MVCD with 15 points and Danny Hazimah chipped in with 10. 

The Lakers (0-5, 0-3 TAAC) got 15 points from Dominic Manuella, 10 from Caleb Gerber and nine from Keegan Rakosky.  

Toledo Christian 55, Danbury 44

Toledo Christian slowly built a lead before pulling away for a 55-44 win over Danbury.

The Eagles led 10-5 after one quarter and held a 24-14 advantage at the half before taking a 39-25 lead into the final period.

TC’s Kyle Kempton led all scorers with 23 points and Garshawn Paynther finished with eight.

Dominic Manuella led the Lakers with 12 points, followed by Hunter Stinchcomb (10), John Rhodes (9) and Caleb Gerber (8).

Danbury travels to Fremont to face St. Joseph CC on Friday and hosts Fostoria St. Wendelin on Saturday.
