Danbury falls to Edon, drops to 2-3 on the year

Facing one of the best teams in the conference was a wake-up call for the Danbury Lakers.

The Edon Bombers, one of the top teams in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference, defeated Danbury, 47-7, last Friday, dropping the Lakers to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Edon (3-2, 1-1 TAAC) took control from the outset, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter and three in the second quarter to take a 34-0 lead into the half. Jimmy Chamberlain had the lone touchdown for the Lakers.

“It was 34-0 at halftime,” Danbury head coach Bryan Dudash said. “We could not get anything going; they dominated us up front. I thought we might have a problem with them defensively because they have so many athletes. They had three good receivers and a quarterback that can run and throw.”

“They're well coached and were ranked preseason No. 12 in the state. They've got a good team and I think they're going to run the table. I think they'll go 8-2 and make the playoffs.”

This Friday, the Lakers face the Toledo Christian Eagles. TC is currently 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the TAAC and has won two games in a row. Offensively, they utilize the spread offense and have a good quarterback in Brett Freeman.

“TC is a lot like us,” Dudash said. “We feel pretty good going into the game. We match up physically. Freeman is probably one of the best quarterbacks league. We feel really confident that if we can play well, we can compete. We just have to have confidence in ourselves.”
