This year, statewide, County Boards of Developmental Disabilities will be raising public awareness of the many abilities people have, regardless of disability, abilities such as being a dedicated team player, hard worker and good friend.
Bonnie has been part of the Ottawa County Board of Developmental Disabilities Special Olympics basketball team since it began two years ago. She is dedicated and shows up to practice every Tuesday. Being a team member has allowed Bonnie build her basketball skills. She is now known to be a 3 point shooter. Bonnie has also learned how to work as part of a team, increased her confidence and made many new friends.
When Bonnie is not playing basketball, she is working in the kitchen at RVI Inc., performing such duties as washing dishes, wiping down tables and stacking chairs. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, going shopping or out to dinner, to the movies, to hockey games, to the races and spending time with her family and her boyfriend.
Just as every team member has strengths to offer the team, every person in a community has abilities to share. Ottawa County Board of Developmental Disabilities encourages everyone to look beyond as we celebrate DD Awareness Month in March.
