National Mobility Awareness Month

May is National Mobility Awareness Month. As such, on the website of the same name; there are thumbnail sketches of hundreds of deserving people who hope to win a wheelchair lift van. The top vote-getters will be considered for the prize. Of course, one of those "local heroes" featured is near and very dear to us, our granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Huffman. She's a cancer survivor with Pitt Hopkins Syndrome and a jazzy purple wheelchair. She and her family have a tired, old van that no longer meets the needs of a growing family with a handicapped child. I urge your readers to go to the following website, http://www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com/entrant/sarah-huffman-englewood-oh/, read why Sarah and her family deserve to win; and vote for her. Voting continues until May 10th, and winners will be announced May 31st. Thank you for participating in something that could make a big difference for a deserving family!

Wrestling tournament

The Port Clinton Wrestling Club would like to thank The Port Clinton Kiwanis Club for their continued support of our biddy wrestling tournament.  The tournament is the only major fund raising event during the year and proceeds are used to support the wrestling programs from biddy thru high school in the school district.  If you would like to become a sponsor for next year’s tournament or the Jonathan Pope Memorial Tournament in November please contact me. All proceeds from the "JTP" go into the memorial scholarship program.

Thanks
Bob Scarpino, President

Tip Jars

Tip Jars come out for Summer. It rather amazes me as to the growing Port Clinton/Marblehead area ‘tip jars’ at restuarants, services venues, or a tip jar for buying a ferry ticket? and such. Why a tip jar for carry out? Or further, a jar next to the cash register, as if you didn’t leave enough at the table. I consider it indicative of the community, ‘squeeze the buck while you can!” We, local people, know very well how prices go up in Summer.
