Recognizing Direct Support Professionals

In recognition of National Direct Support Professional Week (Sept. 9-15), REM Ohio is proud to recognize all DSPs who continue to provide and assure excellent care and support to others. Each year REM Ohio takes extra efforts to celebrate with all DSPs that have stepped up to the challenge throughout the year. A DSP is a person who assists an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD) to lead a self-directed life and contribute to the community. They often extinguish misguided information and come together in the celebration of achievements that embrace community inclusion. A DSP also acts as a faithful advocate, in assisting the individual they serve to communicate their needs, wants, self expression and achievement of life goals.
These employees are shining examples of advocacy, teaching, and development of life-long friendships with the individuals to whom they provide support services year after year. Several local Direct Support Professionals of REM Ohio will participate in the Direct Support Professional Recognition Event held September 12, 2012 at the Xenos Center in Columbus. The public is encouraged to attend this event to honor and give recognition to all Direct Support Professionals across the State of Ohio. If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of adults with I/DD or would like to learn more about Direct Support Professionals, visit www.rem-oh.com or call 800-570-4868.

Sound Off — June 14

Thanks
On May 20, the Elks Lodge No. 1718 served a wonder benefit breakfast for the community to partake in. The benefactor, myself, would like to thank you, the public, for attending and supporting this delicious activity! Your support and an ENF Grant have enabled the Elks to purchase for me an electric scooter. This scooter enables me to to take myself to the market, go to public functions (Walleye Fest yes, I was there!), visit friends, the list goes on!
The hard work of the Elks membership and you, the public, have afforded me a new level of independence. There were even folks at the benefit breakfast who donated monetarily. A big heartfelt thank you to you also!
