For over 30 years I have summered in the Port Clinton area. During that time, I have watched the shrinking Lake Erie coastline being taken over by condominiums and hotels that are for the most part vacant from September to May. And now the last public shoreline is being considered for development of the same. With heartfelt pleading, I beg of you to not let this happen.
If you must develop the land in the hopes of drawing people downtown, perhaps a small outdoor amphitheater for summer concerts. Lots of small towns do this. A nature trail for birding, which is a growing attraction, along the shoreline would be nice. Anything but another hotel or condo complex - please. Don’t destroy the last of the charm of Port Clinton.
