As my wife and I were walking through downtown Port Clinton the night of Aug. 21 we were struck by the lack of care (watering) that some of the large planters were receiving. Plants in some of the planters looked very nice, indicating that some business owners were caring for them. Others, however, (including several located in front of some of the few remaining viable businesses downtown) looked very sad. The flowers were not in good shape and not very attractive.
There's been a lot of talk recently about the downtown area, and about how it can be improved. It seemed to us that the simple act of business owners watering the planters on the sidewalks in front of their locations (or those adjacent to their businesses) would be a good start. It wouldn't take more than a couple of minutes every couple of days when the weather turns dry.
