“Don't Check It, Don't Wreck It!” honors Jonathon Pope

Nick Pope of Port Clinton, along with Trevor Brown and Tyler Gerner of Fremont, seniors in the Criminal Justice program in at Vanguard Sentinel Career and Technology Center of Fremont, have launched a project called “Don’t Check It, Don’t Wreck It!” The project is to inform the public of the dangers of texting and driving, which is now illegal in Ohio and 38 other states. The trio is trying to spread the word through their senior class project. They have designed bracelets, brochures, a power point presentation and a public service announcement, and with more donations are hoping to make t-shirts, more bracelets, thumb bands and a billboard.

EHOVE students lend a helping hand

Community service is important to EHOVE students.  Two groups of EHOVE students have been participating in several activities to raise money for the Special Olympics of Ohio, which provides year round sports training and competition opportunities for children and adults with disabilities.  The students are involved in EHOVE’s Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter and Teen Leadership Corps.

The preschool class at Immaculate Conception School in Port Clinton could think of no better way to honor one of their favorite authors, Dr. Seuss, on his 109th birthday, than to celebratewith green eggs and ham.

B-C-S Board looks toward future

The Benton-Carroll-Salem Board of Education met for its regular business meeting on Feb. 26 to take up a number of matters to prepare the district for the future. The Board of Education opened the meeting by presenting commendations to the ongoing efforts of Kyle O’Neill, a teacher at Oak Harbor Middle School, for his work with the Make-a-Wish Foundation. O’Neill has led the Make-a-Wish fundraising effort for the past five years, generating over $17,000 for families in need.
