PCHS DECA Wins Denim for a Difference at State

The Port Clinton High School DECA chapter was recognized for collecting 1,152 pairs of jeans at the DECA State competition this past weekend. Their total was over one-third of the statewide total 3,000 pairs for Denim for a Difference. DECA is grateful to the community of Port Clinton and everyone that donated denim for the campaign. The jeans will be cleaned and repaired then distributed to homeless shelters across Ohio.

Firefighter Phil and Officer Phil teach valuable lessons at ICS

The students at Immaculate Conception had the opportunity to participate in two different assembly programs on Wednesday. 

The younger students in grades K, 1, and 2 had the chance to see the Firefighter Phil program which taught them the proper steps to follow in the case of a fire. Lessons like “stop, drop, cover, and roll” and “get out and stay out” were combined with magic, a puppet show and comedy to make the message fun and memorable. Fire Chief Kent Johnson was on hand to help answer questions about fire safety. The children were given the homework assignment of going home and checking with Mom and Dad as to the location of an emergency meeting spot and the changing of smoke detector batteries.

Oak Harbor/Penta FFA Sales Team takes 8th at State

The Oak Harbor/Penta FFA Agriculture Sales Team placed 8th at the State Agricultural Sales Career Development Event on Saturday, March 2, at the Tolles Technical Center in Plain City. The sales team consisted of Brian Wyss, Micah Mensing, Logan Segaard and Austin Schimming. The Career Development Event is composed of an objective test, sales demonstration and Customer Relations practicum. The test is designed to assess the team members’ understanding of the sales process and the role selling plays in marketing agriculture products. The sales demonstration assesses the team member’s ability to properly develop and sell an agricultural product to a customer and properly conclude the sales transaction.

B-C-S Schools are ‘Excellent with Distinction’

 

It is with great pride that the B-C-S School District Community received official word recently that the district earned the highest possible rating on its local report card for the 2011-2012 school year. The local report card was slated to be released in August, 2012, but was held up due to a statewide audit of student data by the State Auditor. The report card was just released in late February.

Rite of passage at EHOVE

EHOVE Adult Career Center School of Practical Nursing students participated in a well-known rite of passage in their training, the capping ceremony.  The ceremony marks the halfway point of nursing school as an acknowledgement of the students’ success in reaching that point, and encouragement in reaching their final goal.
