Danbury Schools will be holding a meeting for parents and concerned community members n Thursday, May 30, at 7 p.m., about how Danbury schools will respond to an emergency. The annual Bataan Day ceremony will be Friday, May 24, at 9 a.m. in the Bataan Memorial School Gymnasium.
The students and staff of Bataan Memorial Elementary School invite members of the community to their Bataan Day Ceremony. The Ceremony will honor the thirty-two men from Port Clinton who participated in the Battle of Bataan and the Bataan Death March of World War II. The ceremony helps the students remember the history of their school name and realize the sacrifices made by these brave soldiers and others like them who fought and continue to fight for their country and our freedom.
The May Crowning ceremony is a long standing tradition at Immaculate Conception School. It is a time of year to honor mothers and most especially Holy Mary. The ceremony at Immaculate Conception puts the recent first communion class as the hosts and hostesses of the ceremony as they carry flowers to be put at the foot of the Mary statue.
The fifth grade class has the honor of leading the Mass prior to the ceremony and two fifth grader girls are given the honor of crowning Mary. This year’s fifth graders chosen to crown the Mother of Jesus were Hannah Paeth and Lissa Gillman. After Mass, the school children lead a processional that makes its way to the statue of Mary where the crowning takes place.
Port Clinton High School recently announced the Student of the Month for March is Sam Miller.
Sam Miller has been involved in many activities and organizations at Port Clinton High School. He is the Treasurer of the Senior Class, member of Leadership Council, National Honor Society, Band, Academic Challenge, Freshman Mentor and past treasurer of Drama Club. In addition, he is one of the top ten students in the Class of 2013. Sam is a member of the Bowling Team and throws shot and discus in track and field. For the past three year, Sam has traveled with The Chapel Youth Group on various Mission Trips during the summer. Next year, Sam plans to attend Case Western Reserve University and major in Physics. He is the son of Amy Miller Winters and Kevin Winters.
Danbury Local Schools will be hosting their physical night on Wednesday, June 5th beginning at 5 p.m. at Dr. Jackson's office in Marblehead. You must be a Danbury Student to attend and you must have the physical form filled out prior to the physical. Times are as follows: Middle School Girls at 5 p.m., High School Girls @ 5:15, Middle School Boys @ 5:45, & High School Boys at 6:00.
