The Bicentennial of the Battle of Lake Erie, Sept. 10

The National Park Service continues to commemorate the Bicentennial of The Battle of Lake Erie, fought between American and British navies during the War of 1812. This battle was a decisive American victory led by Master Commandant Oliver Hazard Perry from the safe harbor at South  Bass Island on Sept. 10, which led to a long-lasting peace between the United States, Great  Britain, and Canada.

A series of events will take place at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

I was fortunate to attend the Battle of Lake Erie Bicentennial and witness the ships in their glory. What a wonderful close to a great weekend. I would like to thank the P.O.R.T.S. Committee for bringing this event to fruition and entertaining the entire area for a long and beautiful period of time, a period of time that reminded me of the Port Clinton area so many years ago.
