Success for PCHS Students at State DECA Competition

The following students placed at the 70th Annual DECA State competition (Career Development Conference) held in Columbus on March 21 and 22:

Top 25 - Kennedy Gulas - Business Finance Series, Tarrynn Edgefield - Accounting Series, Ashlynn Slauterbeck - Business Services Series, John Morton - Sports & Enertainment Series, Alexis Cash - Advertising Campaign Event, Jacob Reed - Marketing Management Series

Students awarded with Top 10 honors included:   Nathan Haghiri, 5th place, Automotive Service Marketing; Dylan Spears, 9th place, Principles of Marketing; Kayla Armendariz, 9th place, Entrepreneurship Written Event; Eryn Nason, 3rd place, Retail Merchandising Series; and Madi Baxter & Claire Zielinski, 3rd  place, Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan

Qualifying for the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, GA on May 2-6  are  Eryn Nason, Madi Baxter, Claire Zielinski and Nathan Haghiri.  Mr. Bill Hollister, is the  PCHS Marketing Teacher & DECA Advisor.

Port Clinton High School DECA Attends Central Region Conference in Milwaukee

On Friday Dec. 6, 15 DECA members traveled to Milwaukee, WI to attend the DECA Central Region Conference. They participated in workshops, listened to keynote speakers and networked with over 1500 other DECA members from 13 states located in the Midwest. Workshops were segregated by tracks which included; Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Retail, Travel & Tourism, Entrepreneurship, International Business, Advertising, Social Media, Industry and Design. Students were able to select up to six workshops many of which were sponsored by corporations like Kohl’s, Men’s Warehouse and the Milwaukee Bucks. Keynote speaker, Chris Bashinelli, provided a unique message to all in attendance.

Oak Harbor DECA members win big at State

A total of thirty-six Oak Harbor DECA members qualified to compete at the Ohio DECA Career Development Conference held on March 15-16 , 2013 at the Columbus Convention Center. Over two-thousand DECA members from 107 schools across the state competed at this event. The Oak Harbor chapter is a satellite program of Penta Career Center.

The majority of the members competed in written projects which included market research business plans and community service projects. In addition to being evaluated on their written documents, the student teams were also graded on oral presentations. All of the written projects teams placed in the top ten in the state. Several students also competed in team decision making and individual events.

 The chapter worked with several business and service organizations to complete their projects. Twenty-four students won awards and the results are as follows:

Students who placed in the top four at the state conference qualify to compete at the International Career Development Conference which will be held in Anaheim, California on April 23-28, 2013. Twelve students will represent Oak Harbor at this conference which is attended by over 15,000 DECA members from around the world. The students are currently working to improve their presentation skills and their written projects to prepare for this event.
