PCHS Alumni Hall of Fame Inductees Featured

The Port Clinton Academic Boosters will honor two Port Clinton High School Alumni by inducting them into the Alumni/ Academic Hall of Fame on Wednesday, May 7.  Brent Ahrens and John Ritter will join an elite group of Port Clinton High School alumni recognized for their outstanding academic achievement.

Brent Ahrens graduated from Port Clinton High School is 1981 and went on to become an accomplished Professional Engineer.    He graduated cum laude from the University of Dayton with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering in 1985 and is Masters in 1986.  In 1997 he earned a MBA from Dartmouth College, Amos Tuck School of Business and in 2001 completed the Kauffman Fellows Program.  His professional experiences include Senior Research Engineer IAP Research, Senior Product Development Engineer Johnson & Johnson Ethicon, Director of Marketing and Business Development General Surgical Innovations and a General Partner Canaan Partners.  According to his bio, “Since joining Canaan in 1999, he has lead a number of investment companies in developing cutting-edge medical products including treatment for stroke patients, automatic CPR device, novel antibiotics, and products to measure blood glucose in diabetics.”  Brent resides in Lost Altos, California.

John Ritter is a Professor of Geology at Wittenberg University and was named the 2013 Ohio Professor of the Year.  This 1979 graduate of Port Clinton High School began his academic resume at Penn State University with a Bachelors degree in Geosciences, followed by a Masters of Geology from University of New Mexico.  He would return to Penn State in 1990 for a Ph.D. in Geosciences.  At Wittenberg he is the Director of the Environmental Studies Program and Chairman of the Department of Geology.  He was a Visiting Scholar with the University of West Indies at St. Augustine.  In addition to receiving numerous awards for education he has shared his expertise by serving on numerous community boards and advisory committees.  A few of these committees include:  Board of Supervisors for the Clark Soil and Water Conservation District; Board of Trustees for Tecumseh Land Trust; Springfield Moving Forward Parks and Open Space Subcommittee; Joint Advisory Board for the Mad River Watershed Protection, Technical Support to Springfield Conservancy District, Friends of Buck Creek, Scenic Mad River Committee.
