ICS makes music

Mrs. Mary Krejci directs the ICS fifth graders as they practice their ukuleles during Tuesday’s music class.

The ICS fifth graders stand to perform their latest song.

Fourth graders Paige Reineck and Marcella Brenner love learning a new instrument in the music class.

Fourth graders Benjamin Cadigan and Emily Theibert study their music as they play their ukuleles in Tuesday’s music class.

The fourth and fifth graders at Immaculate Conception School are taking their knowledge of reading and loving music to a new level. They are learning how to play the Ukulele. Each student has been given their very own “uke” and, under the direction of Music teacher Mrs. Mary Krejci, they learn a new lesson in their music classes. The instrument is then taken home for more practice.

The ukulele is a member of the guitar family of instruments; it generally employs four nylon strings. The ukulele originated in the 19th century in Hawaii.
