On Friday Dec. 6, 15 DECA members traveled to Milwaukee, WI to attend the DECA Central Region Conference. They participated in workshops, listened to keynote speakers and networked with over 1500 other DECA members from 13 states located in the Midwest. Workshops were segregated by tracks which included; Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Retail, Travel & Tourism, Entrepreneurship, International Business, Advertising, Social Media, Industry and Design. Students were able to select up to six workshops many of which were sponsored by corporations like Kohl’s, Men’s Warehouse and the Milwaukee Bucks. Keynote speaker, Chris Bashinelli, provided a unique message to all in attendance.
On Saturday students were rewarded with attending a Milwaukee Bucks NBA basketball game vs. the Brooklyn Nets and got to experience all of the marketing activities that take place such as parachute drops, t-shirt throws, raffles, timeout dancers, and lucky seat winners. Students then returned to the convention center to top off the night with a dance and other prom like activities. During the closing session Sunday, Sam Seidman, a comedian and magician, gave a mind boggling presentation involving illusion, magic and comedy offering students plenty to think about on the bus ride home. Port Clinton DECA members are now in preparation for their district competition being held at BGSU Monday Jan. 27.
