The gymnasium at Immaculate Conception Catholic School was full of giggles on Tuesday morning as students thought about the possibility of having a T-Rex as a babysitter. That is precisely the situation in the children’s book “My Sitter is A T-Rex”, by Mr. Paul Orshoski.
Orshoski visited the school this week to talk about his life and career as a writer. The laughter of children is the biggest compliment an audience can give Mr. Orshoski. It is, in fact, the reason he chose to become a children’s author and poet. Mr. Orshoski is a Sandusky native and a retired educator who has to his credit eleven children’s books published by Treasure Bay Inc. of Novato, CA. He also has had several poems published in poetry anthologies by Meadowbrook Press and Scholastic Inc. The author not only shared with the school the process of getting a book published and answered questions about what it is like to be a published author, he also delighted the gymnasium of children with the wit and humor of several of his books and poems.
Mr. Orshoski gave lots of valuable advice as to how to pick topics to write about and how to develop individual writing styles. He stressed to the children that the love of reading is the key to good writing. Immaculate Conception School prides itself on teaching through experiences, such as meeting authors and poets such as Mr. Orshoski. The students and staff of ICS wish to thank Mr. Orshoski for bringing to life his comical stories and poetry and encouraging the love of writing.
