Third graders learn about fire safety

Benton-Carroll-Salem schools third graders were invited to the Carroll Township Fire/EMS Department on Friday, Oct. 4,  to learn about fire safety. The Carroll Township Fire Department, Life Flight, First Energy, Ohio State Highway Patrol, St. Vincent’s, ProMedica, Ottawa County EMA, and Materion all donated their time to make the day possible.

The students moved through stations where they took part in hands-on activities to learn about fire safety and to see actual fire/EMS equipment that is used in emergencies. The students were thrilled when Life Flight arrived and they were able to get a close up view of the inside the helicopter.

The day ended with the Carroll Township Fire Department putting out a real structure fire as the third graders watched them at work. It was a memorable day for the third graders. They left with new knowledge of how to be safe at home, or anywhere, should there be a fire.
