The Oak Harbor/Penta FFA Agriculture Sales Team placed 8th at the State Agricultural Sales Career Development Event on Saturday, March 2, at the Tolles Technical Center in Plain City. The sales team consisted of Brian Wyss, Micah Mensing, Logan Segaard and Austin Schimming. The Career Development Event is composed of an objective test, sales demonstration and Customer Relations practicum. The test is designed to assess the team members’ understanding of the sales process and the role selling plays in marketing agriculture products. The sales demonstration assesses the team member’s ability to properly develop and sell an agricultural product to a customer and properly conclude the sales transaction.
In order for the team to compete at the state level, they had to be one of the top two teams in the district competition that was held in Thursday, Feb. 14, at Oak Harbor High School. They placed 1st in the District competition. Micah was high individual overall, while Logan placed 4th, Brian was 5th and Austin was 6th overall.
Brian Wyss was representing Rothco during a sales appointment at Calbela’s, selling an all-terrain backpack. Micah Mensing represented Umbarger Feed, selling his Show Lamb Feed at a Club Lamb Sale. Logan Segaard was selling on behalf of Ice Master. He was marketing highly versatile ice scraper to a owner at a local AutoZone. Austin Schimming was representing Pennwoods Equine Products, selling a horse feed supplements at the Quarter Congress in Columbus. Logan was 16th individual overall, Micah placed 16th, Logan was 38th, and Austin was 58th overall.
