People flock to Cars for Critters

The Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge held its sixth annual Cars for Critters event on Sunday, Sept. 29. Well over 150 cars participated in the show. Participants in the show were asked to vote for their favorite cars in the Cars of Critters event. Some of the categories included best bird, best mammal, best fish, best insect, best reptile and best plumage. The registration fees and all other money raised went to benefit wildlife rehab, wildlife rescue and environmental education.

Eddy Pausch, Assistant Refuge Manager at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, said that he was happy with the turnout even though the weather was an issue. “People came from as far as Auburn, IN, from the west and Madison, OH, from the east. We are happy with the turnout,” Pausch said. In addition to the car show, Back to the Wild was also in attendance with their education animals. Owls, eagles, hawks, snakes and even butterflies were there for people to see up close. The event also included hay rides, a raffle, door prizes, t-shirts and food from Blackberry Corner.
