Black Swamp Bird Observatory will be holding their 20th anniversary celebration on Oct. 12 and 13.

Joe Duff, Operation Migration 

On Saturday, Oct. 12, the 20th Anniversary Banquet will be held at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton from 4:30 to 9 p.m. The keynote speaker is Joe Duff, CEO and Pilot of Operation Migration.

Duff is the Co‐founder and C.E.O. of Operation Migration. Joe and his team conducted the first human‐led bird migration using two ultralight aircraft to lead 18 Canada Geese from Ontario to Virginia. The success of this initial study led to the founding of Operation  Migration the following year, and the making of the film "Fly Away Home" in 1995. Operation Migration is now working with critically endangered Whooping Cranes.

The evening will also include a silent auction, buffet dinner, and prize drawings. Tickets for the banquet are $35 for BSBO members, $45 for non-members, $25 for students.

On Saturday, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Kenn Kaufman will be conducting a shorebird ID workshop at BSBO. The fees are 

$25 for BSBO members, $35 for nonmembers, and $10 for students.per student

On Sunday, at 8:30 am there will be a field trip to Meadowbrook Marsh with leaders Joe Duff, Mark Shieldcastle, Kenn Kaufman, and Rob Ripma. The Ohio Young Birders Club will also be there conducting their Annual Big Sit. Registration for the banquet is required for this field trip.
