Ballet School putting on Gala 2012
The Ballet School, under the direction of Mary Ann Snider presents the upcoming production of A Gala 2012 at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Port Clinton High School Performing Arts Center.
This year’s production will include a couple of favorite numbers from past productions including Egypte with the music from Cirque du Soleil’s show “Mystere,” 42nd Street Medley and Me, Myself and I. The advanced students will be performing solos to music from Broadway to contemporary, with artists such as LeAnn Rymes, Adele, Florence and the Machine and Michael Buble just to name a few.
Men’s Chorus making stop in Oak Harbor
The Ohio Northern University Men’s Chorus will be in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 165 Toussaint St., Oak Harbor. The community is invited to attend the concert as this 40-voice ensemble from Ada, makes a stop in Oak Harbor during their Spring Tour of the Midwest. A freewill offering will be received.
Under the direction of Dr. Ben Ayling, Director of Choral Activities, and Anthony Taylor, Student Assistant Director, the ONU Men’s Chorus has been pleasing audiences since 2002 with its varied repertoire, contagious enthusiasm and rich male harmonies. It is comprised of students from many majors as well as faculty, staff, alumni and community members, and is one of the University’s prime touring ensembles, having toured to seven states since its inception.
Dr. Ben Ayling conducts and administers the ONU choirs as well as teaching Choral Conducting and Choral Methods. He comes to Ohio Northern from Kent State, where he was founder and conductor of the KSU Men’s Chorus. He is sought after as a conductor, clinician, adjudicator, and speaker; served as guest conductor of state and regional honors choirs in Ohio, Georgia and Tennessee; taught choral music in public schools, including Sylvania, for 20 years; and sang bass in The Ritz, the 1991 International Champion Quartet of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
Put-in-Bay’s Wyland Gallery to open May 19
Wyland Gallery at Put-in-Bay is scheduled to open for the season Saturday, May 19, at 495 Catawba Ave. The gallery will be open seven days a week.
Wyland Gallery at Put-in-Bay showcases Wyland’s own paintings and sculptures of whales, dolphins, reef fish, manatees and endangered species. In addition, the gallery features the work of other leading artists.
During the season, several artists will appear at Wyland’s Put-in-Bay gallery, each presenting a showcase of his newest works. The featured artist will be available daily and by appointment to meet visitors and discuss his inspirations and aspirations.
