Special meeting on Waterworks Park Aug. 8

Mayor Vincent Leone of Port Clinton has called a special meeting of Council for Aug. 8 at 6 p.m.  This meeting will be held at the Elks’ Lodge located at 231 Buckeye Blvd., and will be for the purpose of a full presentation by Mike Rose from Washington Properties on their plan for Waterworks Park.  The previous meeting with Washington Properties was based on initial conceptual drawings and this meeting will include the actual proposal. The proposal will be presented to everyone, including the Administration, Council and the public, for the first time at this meeting.

PCAC’s Arts in the Park is one of oldest art festivals in Ohio

Arts in the Park, sponsored by the Port Clinton Artists’ Club, will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 3 & 4 at Lakeview Park in Port Clinton.  Nearly 120 artists from Ohio, and all over the Midwest, will be showing and selling their original creations.  The show is open to the public and parking is free.  One of the oldest art festivals in Ohio, Arts in the Park is celebrating nearly 60 years of continuing to bring unique and original art to Ottawa County.

BCS Schools finish fiscal year in black

For the first time in 5 years, the Benton-Carroll-Salem Local Schools ended the fiscal year without deficit spending. After many years of using up cash reserves, the board along with administration began the long, painstaking task to reduce expenses. In the span of one year, expenses were reduced by nearly 12%, which played the largest part in ending the deficit spending trend. 

Treasurer Tim Coffman stated, “While it is certainly great to have eliminated deficit spending this past year, it is a trend we would like to see continued and we will work very hard to try and make that happen.”

American Cancer Society benefit double-header

On Saturday, Aug. 10, there will be two events benefitting the American Cancer Society.

The 5th Annual Chemo Pub Crawl begins at Our Guest Inn, 220 Perry St., Port Clinton, and travels to the area’s finest pubs: The Bait House, McCarthy’s, Madison Street Pub, Rosie’s, KoKoMo Bay and Jet Bar. Participants get stamps at each location and return for the Celebration of Life at Our Guest Inn, featuring Nashville singer-songwriter Trent Jeffcoat with D.J. Dale, from 8-11 p.m. Crawl tshirts and tickets are available now at Our Guest Inn, next to Wendy’s.

American Red Cross offering first aid class at Magruder

On August 5, the American Red Cross is offering a skills class on Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED at Magruder Hospital. With an emphasis on hands-on learning, the course gives attendees the skills to save a life. Participants learn how to respond to common first aid emergencies, how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, the use of automated external defibrillators (AED) and more.
