The start of the Bay Bridge 5K
With a new school year approaching, applications for children birth to 4 years old are now being accepted at each of the nine preschool centers operated by WSOS. The centers located in Ottawa County include Genoa and Port Clinton.
Options available to parents who enroll their children at WSOS include full and half-day classes and/or home visitation services. Those children who cannot be served at a center can be served through the home-based/home-visitation program. Services are also available at some centers for babies and toddlers through the Early Head Start program.
Port Clinton High School will host the mandatory OHSAA Player-Parent Meeting for Fall Sport Athletes on Thursday, July 18 at 6:30pm, Port Clinton High School Performing Arts Center. Individual Sport Meetings will be held by Head Coaches immediately following the General Meeting.

Edgewood Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center has been selected as a 2013 recipient of the Silver – Achievement in Quality for its outstanding performance in the health care profession. The award is one of three distinct awards possible through the National Quality Award program, presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). The competitive award program highlights select facilities across the nation that serve as models of excellence in providing high-quality long term care.

The National Rifle Association has introduced Remington as title sponsor to the 2013 Remington/NRA National Rifle & Pistol Championships. Held July 8 through August 14 at Camp Perry, the National Matches are considered America’s “World Series of Shooting Sports.”

After the steady rain Ohio has experienced during the past two weeks, Ohioans and visitors are reminded to avoid high, fast-moving water in rivers and streams, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).
"With the increased amount of rain, extra precautions are needed to ensure that the strength and speed of a river does not exceed people’s skill capabilities or that of their equipment," said ODNR Director Jim Zehringer. “Always remember to a wear life jacket while boating. It’s a simple decision that can save lives.”
Make-A-Wish and Beck Supplies Inc. hosted a wish sendoff party on Thursday, June 13, at Nagoya Restaurant for Wish Child Lindsay of Fremont, whose wish to go to Hawaii will be granted this summer.
The Board of Leadership Ottawa County (LOC) announces that applications are now being accepted for the 2013-2014 program year. According to Board President Emily Dunfee, “Some applications have already been submitted and LOC is anxious to see another talented and diverse group of people experience all that LOC has to offer. The program has two major areas of concentration. First, we are proud of our community and believe great local leaders must be aware of the many resources available both public and private. Also, the program strives to develop and nurture leadership skills through education and practice.”
The nine month program kicks off in August and graduation is the following May. It is a one day a month commitment for the participant. Businesses are encouraged to sponsor employees and individuals and are also welcome to apply on their own. Scholarships and payment plans are available.
