Thanks from the Salvation Army

The success of Ottawa County is NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING.  I say this each and every year that I have been the Director for The Salvation Army.  Each year our Red Kettle Goal is given to us by The Northwest Ohio Salvation Army in Toledo.  This year, our goal was raised to $62,000.00 and while we were up against obstacles, such as not being able to ring as many days as we had in the past, we were still able to surpass our goal by raising $62,603.90!!

Introducing The Welcome Doors of Ottawa County

Each year the Leadership Ottawa County (LOC) class completes a project. The 2013 class is organizing The Welcome Doors of Ottawa County. These doors, modeled on the urban fairies project of Ann Arbor, MI, is designed to encourage travel and exploration throughout our region and encourage children of all ages to discover new points of interest and businesses in Ottawa County.

Ribbon Cutting at Friendship Food Store

A ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the Grand Opening of the new Friendship Food Store located at 1810 E. Perry Street in Port Clinton was held on January 18.  Representatives from the Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce and community members congratulated them for their commitment to the City of Port Clinton.

Otterbein addresses fiscal cliff deal

People are understandably worried about how the fiscal cliff deal will impact them. So Otterbein North Shore has decided to take action and share clear answers and innovative ideas about what you can do instead of worry.

Ohio waterfowl hunters asked to share feedback

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is requesting the state’s waterfowl hunters provide input on the timing of the 2013-2014 fall waterfowl hunting seasons and the locations where they prefer to hunt.

ODNR Division of Wildlife biologists are seeking input from Ohio waterfowl hunters through an online survey so season dates and opportunities can be matched to the preferences of as many hunters as possible within federal guidelines.

United Way invites community to Give, Advocate and Volunteer

With a little more than a month left in its 2012-2013 campaign, United Way in Ottawa County is approximately $15,000 short of its fund-raising goal. United Way’s yearly investment in the community is over $365,000. “If you haven’t yet given to United Way this year, it is not too late,” says Chris Galvin, Director of United Way in Ottawa County. “We need your help in order for us to continue to fund all the programs in need. If every person in the county donated $10 a year, we would reach our goal.”

Thorbahn re-elected to OSWCD Board

Rich Thorbahn was recently re-elected to the Board of Supervisors of the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD). He was sworn into office by Judge Frederick Hany II at the January Board Meeting of the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District. Thorbahn holds the position of member. He joins Chairman Jerry Whipple; Vice Chairman Roland Sandrock,  Fiscal Agent Tom Riedeman and Secretary Mike Harder on the Board of Supervisors.  Together they direct the staff of the District to carry out the conservation of our natural resources through assisting landowners, both urban and rural, throughout Ottawa County.
