Luncheon focuses on speech therapy

Speech/Language Pathologists Susan Cairns and Christy Moenter will present a program on the many facets of speech therapy at Magruder Hospital’s education luncheon at noon Monday, April 16.                       
This luncheon is part of a monthly education series in the hospital’s conference center, which features a different topic and speaker each month. The luncheon series is open to the public and the cost is $6. The program is free if you do not wish to have lunch.
An RSVP for the April luncheon is required by noon on Friday, April 13, by calling 419-732-4061.

Remember to brush your teeth

Second-graders Colton Yarbrough, Cashes Jackson, Gavin George and Marlena McCree learn about dental health at Bataan Memorial Elementary School.The Smile Express visited Port Clinton City School students teaching about dental health and proper brushing. Most recently, staff of Smile Express visited each classroom in Bataan Elementary to educate children on how to keep their teeth healthy, what food causes cavities and other dental education tips. The lesson concluded with a fun brushing activity and each student received a new toothbrush and toothpaste.

Magruder Hospital offers health screening

Magruder Hospital will offer its monthly Cholesterol (Total/LDL/HDL/Triglycerides), Blood Pressure and Glucose Screening for $16 on the second Thursday of every month starting at 1 p.m. The next screening will be April 12 and appointments can be made by calling 419-734-3131, ext. 3420.

Magruder Hospital recruits internal medicine physician

PerrymanMagruder Hospital recently recruited Brenda Perryman to join the hospital's medical staff as an internist. She earned her bachelor of arts in natural sciences from Case Western Reserve and her medical degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She completed both her internship and residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center of Cleveland. She is board certified in internal  medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She has more than 25 years of medical experience.

American Cancer Society offers new prorgrams

The American Cancer Society has developed a free service for those in need of assistance getting to and from cancer treatments. It is a volunteer driver service called Road To Recovery and it’s coming to Ottawa County. No physician’s referral is needed, advance notice is necessary and rides depend on driver availability.  
Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance and a training session is required. The first one in the area will be 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at the Community Resource Center, 8043 W. Ohio 163, Suite 100, Oak Harbor.
